Nude Patches In Video Games

Nude Patches in Video Games

Nude Patches also called Nude Mods are a phenomenon which became popular with one of the first nude patch for Tomb Raider?, named Nude Raider: A fan made modification for the original game, which removed the clothes from the players game avatar, the female archaeologist Lara Croft. Nude Raider however wasn't the first Nude Patch, for example a nude patch for the game Duke Nukem 3D was available before - removing the clothes from the already partially naked dancers in some of the game scenes.

Because Nude Patches are rarely made by the game developers themselves or at least professional artists, they often are not looking realistic and are not of high quality, but there are exceptions. The following is a list of known nude patches of popular video games.

Description Shot
The Tomb Raider? games have a long history of nude patches. A fan made nude mod has been released now for every game of the series, replacing the texture or even model of the character Lara Croft. However, because these are never authorized by the makers of the game, Eidos or Core, the companies behind Tomb Raider usually take down the websites providing these patches.

The screen shots on the left are from the nude mod of the Tomb Raider: Anniversary game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? game resources already include a nude skin for the characters, which is overlaid with a underwear texture in the game, so the player never will see naked female characters in an unmodified game. After a fan published a patch to remove this texture and this became public, the ESRB re-rated the game from Teen (13+) to Mature (17+), although nudity never can be shown without actively modifying the game.
After Half-Life 2 was released, it was only a matter of time until a nude mod was released which removed the clothes from the female character Alyx Vance, who is assisting the player during gameplay.
